Satan and the World
.. want you to believe that you are insignificant
… an insignificant speck in an indescribably large universe.
God gave us a beautiful, amazing, world to live in. They even twist this to make us feel small and insignificant.
From the Mountains…
To the lush Coastlines…
To the Savannas of Africa… God created it all for us to live in and to steward.
Even the man-made structures and cities are designed to make us feel small and insignificant.
The implication, that Satan would have us believe is that God is too big to worry about little ‘ole me..
God
The truth is that God cares about every detail..
He cares about the drugs… the alcohol… the isolation… the abuse…the heartache…
God is in the details.
He cares enough to arrange the chance encounters that will change your life…
[Perhaps this is more your pace for a chance encounter!]
God
… often works through the small to overcome the ‘great’.
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
God uses the Small against the ‘Great’
The English title “Numbers” comes from the two censuses that are central features of this book. However, the Hebrew title, “In the Wilderness,” is more descriptive of the book.
Numbers tells how God’s people traveled from Mount Sinai to the border of the Promised Land. But when they refused to take possession of the Land, God made them wander in the wilderness for nearly forty years. In Numbers 13:17-14:12 (it is well worth re reading this story) we see that only 2 of 12 that reported back had sufficient faith in God. The other 10 were cowering and scared – only Joshua (the son of Nun) and Caleb (the son of Jephunneh) truly believed that God would protect them against the giants that they had spied in the land.
In Judges 7:1-23 God insisted that Gideon reduce his fighting force down to what we would consider a ridiculously low figure. This was the intended point – it had to be obvious that they could only be victorious because of God. If they had a sizable force then it would have been explained as possible with man, instead of only possible with God.
God grows the Small into the Mighty
The Mustard Seed and the Leaven
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
Matthew 13:31–32
Pastor Shannon Williams discusses this parable in this way:
God Works in the Small Things
…and He is the still small voice.
God is in every detail…
A primary example of how God attends to every detail, and how he ensures that everything fits together perfectly, is in Laminin.
What is Laminin?
Laminin is your body’s cell-adhesion molecules. It is the glue that holds all the cells in your body together.
God has written Christ, the Cross, into every cell of our body…
Laminin holds every cell in each of us together.
Jesus is holding you together… God truly is in the details… he is in the small things…
Not only that, God demonstrates his glory most powerfully when he is working through the small and apparently weak.
